Subject: Youths and Job Creation
Question:

I want to find out if the state government wil be recruiting youth into offices at the state house and state secretariat.
Thank you so much for your good work and care you have shown to the less privileged.

Ozordi Chidozie George

Governor's Response

Thanks for your mail. It is the policy of this administration to create jobs for our youths.

I am glad to report that the Imo Palm Plantation, the Avutu Poultry, the Ceramics company and other employment creating organs will shortly come on stream and will provide thousands of jobs to our youths.

Subject: Political Appointees
Question:

The Governor, I want to draw your attention to the burning issue of the size of special assistants as announced so far by your administration. The feeling out on the street is that it is another avenue for 'creating jobs for the boys'. Creating
jobs, in itself, in my opinion is not a bad idea but as they say in politics, perception is reality.

It will be good if the rescue mission is done with just the necessary number of people. Remember the injunction that many are called but few are chosen, but considering the urgency of the mission, we can not afford the luxury of calling many. This is where your leadership acumen, astuteness and sound judgement should take control.

You still need to create jobs but it has to be productive jobs as opposed to 'pestilence jobs.'

I trust you are up to the task. Good luck.

Akaraka Kalu

Governor's Response

Imo State has the smallest number of political appointees.

Those I have appointed are men and women of proven integrity and track record who will help me move Imo forward.

I assure you that this administration is on a rescue mission and in a hurry to deliver and we will succeed with your support.

Subject: Swift Decongestion of Owerri
Question:

Your Excellency Sir,
Firstly, I wish to commend Your Excellency for creating this interactive platform to interface with Imolites. It's my belief that your govt is poised to cushioning the plights of our people. Therefore, strategic steps should be taken to decongest Owerri, the capital of Imo state, which will result to significant reduction in rent price. Cost of rent is really exorbitant in Owerri, adding to the hardship of our people, plunging families into abject poverty.

This was worsened by the number of higher institutions within Owerri metropolis and environs, without hostel accommodations for their teeming students and staff. This has led to over-stretching of social amenities and other infrastructures in the city.

In order to solve this problem and allied issues, I would recommend the relocation of some of these higher institutions forthwith, to areas and towns seeking development. For instance, relocating Alvan Ikeokwu College of Education will take over 20,000 people out of Owerri metropolis. This alone will force landlords and other estate owners to crash
cost of rent.

Your Excellency, every Imolite is looking up to you for rescue and you cannot afford to fail. The plan of this rescue mission must be holistic and it must be pursued with vigor.

May God Almighty strenghten you.
Yours sincerely
Nnamdi Stanley Ekwem

Governor's Response

We have started to decongest Owerri with a holistic detailed plan to build more roads and bridges to transform the city into one of the best cities in Nigeria. This involves building car parks, shopping malls, gardens and other facilities. We will also build a brand new city to cater for the thousands we expect to make Owerri their home.
