The people of Imo State are hard working entrepreneurs who are willing to learn how to master Agriculture. Among other distinctions the literacy level among adults in Imo State is the highest in Nigeria.

Throughout the world, one of the biggest challenges for modern day agricultural producers (farmers) is to increase yields (production) on existing land mass. In general, land is not available or too expensive for any horizontal expansion In Imo State Nigeria the situation is different.
Through the initiative of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, a South African Company Leader Group South Africa Pty Ltd have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Imo State Government to develop Commercial Agriculture to a level that will make an impact on food security.
The aim of this development is to establish 10-15 commercial farms of >500 ha each that will include: 200-300 ha irrigation in various arable areas of the State. Food security and self reliance is the major objectives. One way to achieve this is through the implementation of large scale farming. The project name that was decided on is Agro Nova and a company with the same name was registered in Nigeria.
Imo State is the Eastern Heartland State of Nigeria and cover an area of 532,000 Ha, with an arable area of approximately 300,000 Ha. Water is in abundance due to a the geo-positioning and high annual rainfall of 2,552 mm. The State have accessible road networks crossing every corner of which many are currently under upgrading and asphalt surfacing.
Over the last two decades, agricultural program was followed with an Agricultural extension service that is need-driven and community based. The State also enjoys Aid and grants from world bodies, regional organizations and Federal Government in areas of economic empowerment and creating needed infrastructure.
This Business Prospectus has been prepared to act as a resume for farming operation in the State. It provides landowners and potential investors with a way to identify potential business partners and to learn about their operation and abilities. The prospectus will allow farmers who wish to expand their farming operations abroad with an opportunity to establish a viable operation in Imo State. We would also like to highlight our farming philosophy and objectives as well as our production and management skills.
Agro Nova is partly owned by Imo State Government and Leader Group South Africa(PTY) Ltd.
The project is to be operated and managed by a team of Agro Nova.
A pilot farm is currently being developed close to Efuru River, Imo State. The implementation of the project will be done in phases over the next year. We also wish to simultaneously establish a farming blocks ( 3-4 farms ) where professional commercial farmers will be settled within the timeframe of 5 years.
