Investment Potentials in Imo State - Agro Based Industry

««| Agro Industry | Agro Allied Industry | Oil & Gas | Available Raw Materials

(i)      Integrated palm produce processing
The project is designed to utilize palm oil and palm kernel in the classification of pal oil and extraction of palm kernel oil for further industrial uses. An integrated palm produce processing plan has the potential to generate other down stream industries in the areas of soap and detergents, cosmetics, margarine and pharmaceuticals.

(ii)     Integrated Sugar Factory
Preliminary investigations indicate that sugar cane could be successfully grown in the State to support a sugar industry. Currently domestic production of sugar is grossly inadequate to meet total national demand. An integrated sugar project designed to produce granulated sugar, cube-sugar and further processing of it by products will be a viable proposition.

(iii)    Maize Processing

Maize is widely grown in the State primarily for consumption. The establishment of Maize processing industries to manufacture glucose, brewers grit, nulls, steeping residue, germ cakes, gluten, semolina, fine flour and bran is considered viable.

(iv)     Fishery Industry
Opportunities exist in the fishery in the State. Government encourages the development of private and public fish farms. At present there are over 300 fish ponds and 13 hatcheris in the State, though these hatcheries are not enough to met fish deed demand. They however help to minimize the problem of shortage of supply of fish fingerlings. Investors could therefore take advantage of immense opportunities in the fishery industry particularly in the areas of large scale commercial fish feed mill projects, fish processing, synthetic fishing net industry and pituitary gland extraction industry.

(iv)     Livestock
There is scope for the development of commercial livestock production in the State particularly poutry and piggery. These two breeds appear most favoured because other animals like sheep, goats and cattle require extensive grazing areas, which are not easily available in the State. Commercial livestock production will create investments into such other projects as poultry and piggery feed mills, meat processing industry, bone meat processing and animal feed additives from slaughter.
