US Group commends Ohakim’s Development Projects
The group under the auspices of Pan Ndigbo foundation (PNF-USA) said: “We have continuously watched the activities of the governor and come to the conclusion that Gov. Ohakim needs to be commended for his good deeds.”
This was contained in a statement made available on Wednesday, signed by the group’s National Chairman, Mr. Geoffrey Nzeadibe.
"It is heart-warming to know that through the efforts of Governor Ohakim, the Federal Government approved the Imo State government’s request to establish a Naval Base in Oguta. Additionally, we commend him for getting the Federal government to agree to partner with Imo State to build a refinery in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area (LGA) of the state and also getting the Federal Government to approve a N25 billion road project that would traverse Owerri to Rivers State.
Also we welcome and commend Gov. Ohakim’s rural development policy that is aimed at boosting Imo Rural Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) with the involvement of the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources. We believe that the dividends of democracy will reach the masses when the government begins to site some projects in the rural communities. The needed projects in the rural communities include development of rural roads, water and energy. We sincerely commend the government for building and/or rehabilitating about 800 water schemes in various areas in Imo State, the group added.
We commend you for the dredging of Nworie River with Federal funds. The dredging of Nworie will not only reduce the health care cost in and around area, but will increase the standard of living of people around thereby increasing their life expectancy. It will also bring to an end the prevalence of refuse (biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials) in the area with its culminating in health hazard.”
PNF said; “The dredging of this river is in the right thing to do because of its health, economic and environmental concerns. Well-meaning citizens of Imo State and Nigeria in general should support such a project.
The group also gave kudos to the “transformational Clean and Green Initiative in urban and rural areas of Imo State particularly the state capital through the following:
The Restoration of the Owerri Master Plan, Restoration of Monthly Cleanup exercise, Demolition of illegal structures/shanties, Demolition of illegal bill boards, Installation of mobile toilets in Owerri Metropolis, and Massive Cleaning and Greening of the Environment.
“The Imo Wonder Lake project-Lake and Restore Centre in Oguta will not only transform Imo State into a tourist attraction centre, it will provide gainful employment for many citizens of Imo State. Governor you have made some giant strides and we commend you wholeheartedly because this project and other projects will attracts jobs thereby increasing the standard of living in the state.
PNF-USA, the statement argues pride itself as a believer in the freedom of the press and freedom of speech. “We encourage intense political debate and discourse base on principles and ideology but without smear or innuendoes. We encourage citizens to be supportive of the government and critical when need be. However, we condemn any orchestrated attempt to drown the progress of Imo State for political expediency. Any actions to impede the progress of Imo State for political or selfish reasons are against the people. We also believe in a true federalism where all levels of government (Federal, State, and Local) are very important to the citizenry and the leaders should be determined through elections.
We are glad to hear that having adopted the Local Government Reform Laws; the Local Government election will be held shortly in the 27 Local Government areas of Imo State.
We encouraged the administration to make every effort to accomplish that. We also encourage you to increase your effort in the area of security because the benefits of the afore mentioned projects will be short-lived without adequate security. Again, security is paramount,” it noted.
