Ohakim swears in Aides and Commissions
The event held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Owerri, witnessed the swearing-in of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Special Advisers for the Bureaus of Niger Delta Affairs and that of Agricultural Development and Food Security; chairmen and members of the State Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission and the House of Assembly Service Commission.
Governor Ohakim also inaugurated Senior Special Assistants and the interim management committees of the State Palm Produce Company, ADAPALM and the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission.
In his address, Chief Ohakim noted that the day marked a major step towards the consolidation of the New Face of Imo Agenda – a principle of paradign shift aimed at doing things a new way through accountability, incorruptibility and transparency.
He enjoined the appointees not to see their appointment as that for self glorification and aggrandizement but to regard it as an honour and challenge to serve Imo people creditably.
Imo number one citizen however, warned commissions and committee members not to turn to a drag in the administration of their establishments or engage in power tussles, scramble for advantage, indiscipline and breach of laid down principles but to eschew rancor and allow the smooth running of their workplace.
Governor Ohakim used the opportunity to reiterate the feats of his administration in the areas of road construction, immunization, which has reduced to the barest minimum infant and maternal mortality in the state, the Millennium Development goals and the massive impacts of the Clean and Green Initiative.
He posited that the greatest asset to his administration was the support of the citizenry and its ability not to be distracted or intimidated no matter the penchant for trouble-shooting by the opposition.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of other appointees, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Chikwem Onuoha, thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve. He promised the governor that they would not let his administration down and would serve the people of the state with utmost sincerity and dedication.
