Stakeholders in health charges on successful immunization
The Imo State Mobilization Officer in the State Ministry of Health, Mr. Roland Ekwueme has charged all stakeholders in the health sector especially the traditional rulers to help out in the success of the State Immunization exercise starting tomorrow in all the 27 Local Government Area of the State.

Mr. Ekwueme said this while addressing a pre-sensitization meeting held at the library of the State Ministry of Health on Tuesday March 2nd 2010.

He praised the State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim for providing the enabling environment for the total eradication of polio in the state and advised all those concerned in the exercise who put in their best in the ongoing exercise that started on the 6th of March 2010 and also commended the efforts of the State Health Commissioner, Dr. Vin Odogu who has given all the necessary support in the eradication of the disease in the state and concluded it to be very successful. He confirmed that immunization officers will be sent to the field fully equipped as immunization officers and will be sent to the field fully equipped for the immunization programme, adding that traditional rulers and opinion leaders in the communities are advised to cooperate with the immunization officers on field work.

Contributing in the meeting the polio officer representing World Health Organization (WHO) in the meeting, Mr. Victor Nnawuba commended the efforts being put by the state government in mobilizing and ensuring that the success of the exercise is very essential. He explained that if plans are made without adequate implementation it will make nonsense of the exercise.

He said that last year about 399 cases of polio were reported in Imo State, hence we cannot relax and now that the state is 100% polio free and he also advised all mothers and children to make good benefit of the exercise which has no overdose.
