Ohakim, Idris, others, hail Anambra election, congratulate Obi
The Imo governor, who spoke at the conference of Igbo Leaders in Owerri, commended Governor Obi and other contestants in the election for what he called “their maturity and spirit of sportsmanship.”
He described the election as exemplary, stressing that by its peaceful conduct, the people of the state had debunked the prophecies of the doomsayers and in its stead reclaimed the respect of Ndigbo and made them proud.
Ndi Anambra, he said, had shown by the way they handled the election, “that left on their own, the Igbos can always organize and manage themselves.”
In his own congratulatory message, Kogi State’s governor, Alhaji Dr. Idris, described Obi’s victory as a good omen for Nigeria, adding that it had rekindled the hope of Nigerians in the nation’s electoral system.
He, however, urged Obi not to relent in his promises to the people but to continue to make available his wealth of experience, boundless energy and resourcefulness for the attainment of the set objectives is to justify the mandate given to him by the people of the state.
Meanwhile, the South East Council of Traditional Rulers had commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a peaceful governorship election for Anambra State.
The chairman of the council, HRH Eze Dr C. I. Ilomuanya, who spoke on behalf of the council, also commended Governor Obi for his efforts in ensuring good governance and the people of the state for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly during the election.
Also, the Igwe-elect of Nteje community in Oyi Local Government of the state, Chief Rowland Odegbo, had congratulated Governor Obi on his re-election as the governor of the state, just as he commended the people of the state for seeing the good in the governor and re-elected him for a second tenure.
Odegbo said: “I think he did very well. I applaud the people of Anambra State who broke the jinx, who gave us the opportunity to have a governor for eight years like any other state in the geo-political zone.
“I believe that with this victory will come development throughout Anambra State. I believe that the governor’s vision of ANIDS worked very well in the first tenure. I believe and hope that he can expand it and take it further in the second tenure. I wish more programmes will be brought to some areas that did not benefit in the past like my community, Nteje.”
“I congratulate him and I wish him good luck. I know he is going to do well, he is a good person, he is a good governor but most importantly, I thank the people of Anambra State who saw the good in him to re-elected him for another four years.”
