FGN to partner with Imo on refinery
With the proposed Oak Refinery Project in Imo State and the expected economic benefits to accrue to the state, the Federal government through the Ministry of Petroleum has agreed to assist the state.

Making this disclosure recently at a 3-day retreat held at the Amber Hotel, Tinapa, for the Imo State Expanded Executive Council members, the governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim stated that the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Imo will have back its seven(7) oil wells.

He explained that the oil wells when aggregated would be able to produce 700,000 barrels of oil per day.

The governor extrapolated that over N4b would be drawn into the Imo economy.

According to the governor, his administration was laying the foundation necessary to launch Imo into global relevance. He listed such efforts as the new port/Naval base to be cited in Imo, the Oguta Wonder Lake Resort, Housing Scheme in Osemoto, establishment of Skills acquisition centres etc; as the solid base for the state.

He remarked that the essence of the executive retreat was to take stock of the performance of the MDAs towards the realization of set targets.

Chief Ohakim urged the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to re-strategize on their charter for greater performance.

In a lecture titled “Leadership and Effectiveness in Policy Implementation Policy,” Pat Utomi stressed the need for the political and bureaucratic class to pursue common interests especially in driving government policies and programmes to successful end.

Pat Utomi used the occasion to warn on the dangers of replacing government goals with private goals which he pointed out was detrimental to the good of the state.

Contributing, the Chief Consultant of the Retreat, Chief Chris Asoluka said that for the New Face of Imo Vision to succeed, there must be dedicated and committed system of implementation of its programmes.

Besides this, he observed efforts should be applied at sustaining achieved targets.

In the retreat were Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Special Advisers, Senior Special Advisers, Directors and representatives of government agencies.
