Flag-off of council election.
Performing the assignment at the Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri the
governor urged the mammoth crowd to come out enmass and vote for the Peoples Democratic Party, during the elections proper. He maintained that the era of rigging elections in the state was over, pointing out that the transparency which produced the candidates must continue during the polls.
Governor Ohakim warned that the election should be free and fair, deviod of ballot box snatching and mass thumbing of votes, charging security operatives to live up to expectation during this period.
He also appealed to trouble makers and thugs to stay away from the elections, as imo people have resolved to vote only those capable of meeting the demands of the people. Governor Ohakim disclosed that the campaign kick-off has shown doubting thomases that the council elections in the state is a reality.
He used the occassion to welcome members of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, led by the former state chairman, Engr. Leo Okereke who collapsed the party into PDP.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, a member of the board of trustees of the PDP, asked the imo people to vote the PDP from councillorship candidates to the chairmanship. The state chairman of the party, Chief Marcellinus Nlemigbo urged the members of the party to work hard and make sure that the party recorded hundred percent victory at the polls.
