The Imo State Governor Chief Ikedi Ohakim has called on traditional rulers and other major stakeholders in the state to ensure that desperate politicians do not throw the state into a cycle of endless turmoil in pursuit of their inordinate political ambition.
Gov. Ohakim made the call at the Multi-Purpose Hall Owerri recently while informing Imo people of the nefarious plans and activities of some desperate politicians who want power at all cost at the expense of the peace and progress of the state.
He therefore assured Imo people that these disgruntled politicians will no longer be allowed to treat the state as their private estate pointing out that his government will no longer close its eyes to any form of political rascality in the state, adding that anybody who engages in any effort to destabilize the state shall have himself to blame.
Governor Ohakim further stated that all political rallies in the state are banned, till the tribunal gives its verdict. He further banned the indiscriminate use of siren by unauthorized politicians.
He joined the traditional rulers and other major stakeholders to caution the youths and their various communities to avoid been used by these evil men to cause trouble.
Chief Ohakim recalled that after the April 28 gubernatorial election, some of his opponents who lost went to the Election tribunal, but unfortunately some are impatient with the tribunal and chose to use extra-judicial means to extort favourable verdict from the tribunal or set the state on fire if they fail to rule the state.
He further stated that from the inception of this administration, there has been a relentless effort to destabilize the state through media campaign not only to intimidate the tribunal but to call to question the integrity of the state.
Governor Ohakim stated that these politicians had set out the sum of N240m for massive media war against the state, with eight hack writers parading as journalists mobilized to unleash media mayhem and obnoxious pamphlets with false information, recruited 30 fake TV discussants to invade some TV stations and hold a parody of tribunal on air.
According to Governor Ohakim, security report showed that they planned to assassinate him (Governor Ohakim) during the planned local government tour to inspect projects, kidnap key public officers, use imported Inaga people to commit arson, robbery and to using fake uniformed security operatives to penetrate government circles. He pointed out that these despicable acts of the enemies of the state was intended to portray the government as being incapable of maintaining peace and security in the state and possibly create the impression that only their sponsor is capable of governing the state.
Chief Ohakim, who seized the opportunity to outline some of his achievements in the past seven months, said that the unrelenting negative and destructive campaign against the state is capable of driving away investors interested in creating jobs for the teeming youths.
Governor Ohakim assured Imo people that “I am not deterred by the antics of these desperate politicians and their collaborators. I am not distracted at all. I remain focused” and pointed out that “leadership is a selfless service, not imposition of oneself on the people who rejected you at election”. |
