Wife of the Governor, Imo State Ohakim commissions Red Cross kitchen, donates freezer. As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark the 2008 World Red Cross Day, wife of Imo State Governor, Barr Chioma Ohakim has commended the Nigerian Red Cross for their contributions to the nation just as she commissioned their kitchen and store to improve their efforts.

The disclosure was made by Ohakim's spokesperson, Angela Nkwo on Thursday during the commissioning ceremony of a kitchen and store for the Nigerian Red Cross Owerri Motherless built and donated by Kiwanis Club of Owerri.
Kiwanis Club of Owerri, a member of Kiwanis

International as part of their social responsibility built and donated a kitchen and store to serve the children at the Owerri Motherless Babies Home run by the Nigerian Red Cross in Imo state. Speaking on the gesture, Ohakim said the commissioning of the project was appropriate as it was done in the month of May, which commemorates the Children’s Day.

She noted that the children deserve the best in life because they are not motherless due to any fault of theirs rather by circumstances adding that the children deserve the best in life.
Ohakim who donated a freezer to the home charged NGOs, corporate organisations and well spirited people to always assist the motherless babies homes by adopting one of the children or sponsoring them
in life.

According to her, “if we turn our back on the children, we would have embraced curses rather than blessings because in these children we have Doctors, Engineers and every other profession we need to survive as a society, state, and as a nation.

She disclosed that the Governor of Imo state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has provided the children with teachers and a conducive atmosphere to save them from insults and ridicule from people.
Ohakim pledged her readiness to improve the lives of the children in any way that may be required.

President of Kiwanis Club of Owerri, Sir Tim Azubike explained that the group has also provided the home with a 1000 capacity tank as well as a washing machine. He stated that Kiwanis is committed to the upliftment of the needy and the under privileged in the society. Assistant Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs Cecilia Okere in her remarks commended the gesture to the centre just as she prayed God to continuously bless those who assist the home. She pledged the readiness of the Nigerian

Red Cross to continue to cater for the children and called on other people to lend a helping hand to the home.
The high point of the occasion was the investiture of Barr Chioma Ohakim as a member of Kiwanis Club Owerri in
appreciation of her numerous contributions of the needy in Imo state, and decoration with a gold pin.
