Worried by the upsurge of armed robbery and kidnapping in Imo state, wife of the state Governor, Barr Chioma Ohakim has charged the people to pray against such trend just as she urged the perpetrators to desist from such acts. Ohakim made the call at the weekend in Owerri during the monthly
Family Prayer Project for the New Face of Imo which held at the FSP Hall,
Ugwu-Orji.
She charged people to engage in honest work and shun bad or evil acts that will bring them and their families to disrepute, saying “I urge you that whatever your hands find to do, please do it with every sense of dignity for
our Lord who sees the heart of men will bless you abundantly”. Ohakim noted that the month of May is significant as it marks democracy day, children day, workers day noting that for Nigeria, it is celebration month for the return of democracy. According to her, democracy is a collective effort that everyone, adding that whatever we make out of it depends solely on us. She however charged parents to train up their children with the fear
of God and likened their attitude on situations and events to the kind of training they receive from home.
The Governor’s wife was full of appreciation to God and Imo people for the successes recorded in the state; “it has been your prayers, patriotic spirit, courage, and encouragement that have made the journey successful, I
thank you all” she stated. Preacher at the event, Mr Angel Okocha in his sermon, charged the people to be the salt of their families and state just as explained that salt depicts purity.
According to him, rancour most times is caused by the quest for self aggrandisement and payment rather than dedication to build a name which when trusted will serve as income route. He charged the people to be agents of change especially in the transformation of Imo just as he prayed God to change people’s hearts to become
God’s agents.
Further, Okocha charged Christians to always read their Bible which he likened to codes for living, and that adherence to the codes guides one in their endeavours. Another preacher, Mr Desmond Ahamefule charged people to shun lust but be led by the Spirit of God. He explained that lust is an extreme desire to do something bad
adding that it includes pride, arrogance, and lust of the flesh.
