Imo state Government has declared Saturday March 1st 2008 as statewide Sanitation and Clean-up exercise in all parts of the state.

The Commissioner for Information & Strategy chief Chuma Nnaji disclosed this to newsmen on Monday February 25, 2008 at Government House immediately after the State Executive Council meeting.

He advised members of the public to take the clean-up exercise very serious adding that anyone caught for non-compliance will be tried instantly by the State Sanitation and Environmental Mobile Court.

Chief Nnaji, further directed the ENTRACO cadet and other security agencies in the state to ensure that there should be no movement of vehicles during the exercise, except those on essential duties.

He also enjoined Imo people to always maintain clean and hygienic environment, pointing out that there is an out break of cholera in some parts of the state.

Nnaji also said that there was a minor Cabinet reshuffle in the State Executive Council, which according to him would strengthen the Cabinet.

The reshufflement is as follows: -

  • Hon. Commissioner for Finance Dr. (Mrs.) Kate Okpaleke moves to Special Duties.
  • Commissioner for Public Utilities & Rural Development Barr. Ralph Nwosu moves to Ministry of Works, Housing & Transport while Engr. George Irechukwu takes over the Ministry of Finance. 

The change takes effect from Monday February 25, 2008.
